We’ve built a business that’s known for putting people first, taking an active role to make sure events are fun and safe for everyone involved. But our responsibilities and commitment to safety don’t stop there. We know there are solid links between keeping people safe, the impact we have on the local communities we work in and our footprint on the wider global environment.
Calm – Our charity of the year
As an organisation who is committed to standing together, united against suicide, Calm really speaks to the heart of what we believe which is why we chose it as our charity of the year. We must all work together to keep people safe and help them see that life is always worth living. If you are in need of support, you can access Calm’s resources for free or you can find out how to help someone you’re worried about.
Part of our commitment to keeping people healthy and safe is making sure that our social impact is a positive one. We have 4 areas of support that we focus on to deliver this commitment.
- Supporting local communities
We consider the impact of events on the local community in our decision making and planning and we work with contractors to support elements such as traffic management and noise pollution. We use local suppliers and small business accommodation providers where we can put money back into the local economy. We also recommend onsite re-using of peoples’ own water bottles and encourage recycle points wherever possible at events.
- Supporting the global environment
We’ve joined the Ecolibrium programme which helps us to identify and achieve our net zero carbon goals. Through this program we’ll be working smarter and as a result, we’ll be consuming less energy. Our main focus through the program is to offset our carbon emissions caused by team commutes both nationally and internationally when travelling to work on events.
- Supporting our commitment internally
Through our internal operational practices, we’ve implemented initiatives to mitigate our environmental impact. Our teams travel to events both close by and further afield, so we are supportive of them using public transport if possible. We also reduce travel where we can by having minimal in-person team meetings. In our office environment, we save paper by adopting digital platforms and continue to look for new ways to reduce our consumption. All our toner cartridges are recycled and we encourage people to turn off electrical items when not in use.
- Supporting good causes
We’re really proud to be passionate supporters of charities and give back wherever we can. Here are some of the ways the Harrier team are supporting good causes across the UK:
- We’ve provided free online training and free spaces on our open IOSH courses to local charities to support the development of their staff and volunteers.
- We’ve delivered talks to local charities about career development.
- We’re working with two universities to host talks about working in our industry and how to build networks.
- We’ve supported the Rainbow Wish List for children by purchasing toys for Christmas donations.
- We support our local Christmas dinner in Castle Donnington on Christmas day, making and delivering a dinner to elderly people or people living on their own.
- Joined the Mental Health Charter to help change the way people think and act about mental health challenges.
